Eat To The Beat 2016

This month opened with one of The Roaming Life’s favourite annual events – Eat To The Beat. For 21 years now, Toronto’s finest female culinary and pastry chefs have gathered together at Roy Thompson Hall in support of breast cancer support and research. They bring with them a wealth of edible delights, paired with local wine, beer and spirits. This year was no exception! If you missed this year, or have never been, we’ve got the pictures to make you drool.

Spotlight On: Craft Beer Passport 2016

Craft Beer Passport

While you can usually track the start of spring with the blooming of trees, in Toronto you can chart the good weather by the number of patios open. The first day possible, Torontonians are out enjoying beer in the sun. Well, what better way to enjoy your beer and your city than with a passport to our local craft beer watering holes.

For the third year in a row, beer enthusiasts can pick up a Craft Beer Passport, and challenge themselves to discover a favourite new venue. New this year though are area-specific passports (East-End and West-End), to either cater to the locals, or inspire people to venture beyond their neighbourhood borders. Each $20 pass will offer $2 12oz beers at 20 locations, or $30 for both if you’re feeling particularly ambitious.

Once again, I spoke with Craft Beer Passport creator Mike Stulberg to get the inside scoop on the passport’s past success, and what we can expect this year. (See my interviews for 2015 and 2014).

Cask Days 2015

As the beer renaissance continues in Toronto and beyond, we are offered a wealth of opportunities to experience the creativity of brewers.  But for the truly dedicated consumer, you can eventually feel that you’ve tried everything. Toronto’s BarVolo helps keep that feeling at bay with its ever rotating taps and experiences. It seems a logical extension that they are the annual host of one of the city’s most unique beer experiences. Pouring one-off and specially conditioned beers, Cask Days offers the chance to experience some truly once in a lifetime brews.

Win Tickets to Toronto Food & Wine!

This weekend brings the first ever Toronto Food & Wine. Replacing it’s predecessor the Delicious Food Show, this World-Class event will be held at Evergreen Brickworks September 18-20th. It features both amazing international celebrity chefs and  homegrown talent – from Daniel Boulud to Chuck Hughes. So, if you’ve got some time off from seeing films at TIFF, enter our contest to win passes!

PintxosTO 2015

While it may be difficult to identify singularly Torontonian cuisine, the city’s chefs never cease their efforts at creating the perfect meal. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and so the fact that we have enough restaurants in the city to create a prix fixe adventure out of tapas alone means that we are in a truly inspired place. After an incredible meal at Weslodge it was time to continue my  #TapasJourney at the ultimate small bites destination: PintxosTO 2015!
